Last year while out on a stroll, I happened upon acclaimed the Chef, Vikram Vij. He was standing outside the newest location of Vij’s restaurant staring very contemplatively at an exterior
wall of the building. I kindly introduced myself and said that I’d love to shoot a portrait of him for my own portfolio… and what exactly was he looking at?? He told me he was trying to decide about the design elements for the wall and was thinking of adding some vines to bring some greenery to the space. I left him my card and walked away in a much better headspace than 10 minutes previous as I had been dealing with many personal things and wasn’t in the best of spirits at the time.
A couple of weeks passed by, and I received and email from Vikram. Not only was he up to shoot, but he wanted me to shoot the cover for his new book that was just about finished!!
I was given a brief by the publisher, found myself a studio space, and we were good to go!
Vikram was very gracious during the shoot and all went according to plan. Fast forward 9 months, and I finally got to see the book released and my work in print!!
All images were shot with an Elinchrom ELC head fitted with a 28″ Westcott Apollo softbox. a small white foamcore board was set below for fill. I had black V-flats on either side of Vikram for added contrast, and 2 large softboxes to give me some exposure on the grey backdrop.
And now some photos!
